Harm City Homicide Travels to Spring Roll

Harm City will be traveling to Fort Wayne, Ind. on May 12th and 13th for Spring Roll, hosted by the Fort Wayne Derby Girls.

Thirteen of the top men’s derby teams from around the country will congregate for two days, two tracks and 20 bouts. Participating teams include:

Rollin’ Regulators in First Public Bout!

Next weekend, the Rollin’ Regulators will play their first public bout against the New York Shock Exchange’s B team, the Dow Jones Average. The game is part of a double header hosted by the Pottstown Roller Derby Rockstars in Pottstown, PA.

On April 14th, the Dow Jones will participate in their second public bout against the Regulators, followed by a women’s intra-league bout between Pottstown’s Damage Incorporated and the Flogging Mollies.

It’s technically an away game, but it’s really not for, so not excuses not to go!

2011 Championships Bracket Announced

The Men’s Roller Derby Association released the 2011 Championships Bracket today.

Magic City will face the Dallas Deception in the first game with the Puget Sound Outcasts playing Pioneer Valley in the second game. The winner of the Magic City/Dallas Deceptio game will go on to play the #2 seed the New York Shock Exchange while either Puget Sound or Pioneer Valley will face the #1 seed, the Saint Louis Gatekeepers.

MRDA announces 2 new member leagues

Earlier this week The Men’s Roller Derby Association (MRDA) announced its 17th and 18th members. The Ozarks Derby Brigade of Springfield, Missouri and The Bomb Quads from the Burlington Bombers Roller Derby league of Burlington, Vermont.

As new members of the MRDA, they join the ranks of the elite men’s leagues that are skater owned and operated. MRDA is the governing body for male flat track roller derby, and engages in sanctioned interleague play that includes a championship tournament.

Nightmare on 95

This weekend, September 16th through the 18th, women’s derby teams from all over the East Region, including teams from three countries, will descend upon our hometown for the WFTDA 2011 East Region Playoffs – dubbed Nightmare on 95.

The playoffs are being held at Clarence “Du” Burns arena in Canton and co-hosted by our derby sisters, the Charm City Rollergirls and the DC Rollergirls.

We’re excited to be able to see three days of world-class derby take place in our backyard and many members of the Homicide will be at the playoffs either coaching the invited teams, officiating the three days of bouts or covering the event for DNN.

MRDA Releases End of Season Rankings

MRDA has released the end of season rankings. The top 6 member leagues in the end of season rankings earn the right to compete in the MRDA Championships, to be held October 22 in Old Bethpage, New York. Those invited will compete for the “Athletic Cup” trophy and the title of 2011 MRDA Champions.

Teams qualify for rankings by competing in a minimum amount of sanctioned bouts. MRDA member leagues vote on rankings based on teams’ records and game data in sanctioned bouts. End of season rankings are used to determine championship tournament eligibility.

Your Harm City will be playing their eighth bout of the 2011 season against the East Coast Irregulars – a rag-tag bunch of MRDA and WFTDA skaters from up and down the East Coast this Sunday, September 11th!

This is the last home game of the season and is sure to be filled with a some big hits and high scores. So some out, on Sunday to Skateland Northpoint and cheer on your Harm City skaters for one final time.

Tickets are only $10 (kids 12 and under are free) and you can buy them in advance at Brown Paper Tickets or at the door. You can also RSVP on Facebook.

Homicide Takes On The New York Shock Exchange

The boys in blue will be travelling to New York this weekend to take on the #2-ranked MRDA team, the New York Shock Exchange as part of the Roller Derby Daredevils Event.

The Daredevils event is a triple-header roller derby bout featuring derby played by both men and women. The other two bouts are the Gotham Girls All-Stars versus Denver’s Mile High Club and the Gotham Girls B-team, the Wall Street Traitors, versus the Suburban Brawl All-Stars.

The Cowtown Butchers Join MRDA

The Men’s Roller Derby Association (MRDA) announced today that the Cowtown Butchers of Kansas City, Missouri has joined, making the association now 16 member leagues strong. As a new member of the MRDA, the Butchers joins the ranks of the elite men’s leagues that are skater owned and operated.

The Cowtown Butchers will be taking on the guys of YOUR MOM from Des Moines, IA on August 20th.

Open Scrimmage with Harm City

Harm City Homicide will be hosting an co-ed open scrimmage on August 14th, 2011 at Skateland North Point, in Dundalk, MD from 5:00pm to 8:30pm. The scrimmages will be played under the current MRDA/WFTDA rulesets - this will be great practice for any interested MRDA, WFTDA, and WFTDA-apprentice scrimmage and bout ready skaters. If you’re interested, reserve your spot now!

Cost & Insurance

The cost for this day of derby is $10 – plus insurance. Insurance cost for this event is $5 for one-day coverage by our provider, Francis L. Dean. If you are an MRDA league member, you are covered by this insurance provider. You may waive your right to be covered by insurance for this event.

Spots are limited, to reserve your spot, and your insurance, you must send a confirmation to Federal Kill at federalkill@harmcityhomicide.com no later than Thursday, August 11. If you have any questions, you can send them to the same email address. You can also RSVP on Facebook, after your spot has been confirmed.

Requirements

You must be fully geared or you will not be allowed to participate. That means:

Helmet
Knee pads
Elbow pads
Wrist guards
Mouth guard
Skates
Also, please bring one black shirt and one white shirt. No grey.

Referrees

Why yes, we do need them. Would you be so kind as to pass this information along to your ref crew? Referrees can attend at no cost for their awesome assistance.
